Girl In Braids is a woodcraving of exceptional beauty, quality and detail. This was chiselled from a single block of Lignum Vitae (Lignumvitae) wood which is one of the most challenging woods used for carving, due to its density and weight.
The artist, D. Clark of Jamaica, painstakingly sculpted the torso of a young woman sporting a chic braided hairdo styled in an upswept fashion, delicately outlining the features of this attractive young woman's face.
Clark also played with the grains of the sap and heartwood of the lignum vitae highlighting various lines of this piece in just the perfect areas of this one-of-a-kind wooden art sculpture.
This piece is signed by the artist (D. Clark), and was completed at the Mighty Gully Carvers Art Studio in Jamaica. The Mighty Gully Carvers Art Studio was founded in in the early 1980s with support from Prince Charles (The Princes Trust, UK).
