Wood Wildflowers is an
amazingly successful effort by
two craftsmen who happen to
be father and son. Their
workshop is nestled in the
wilds of Northern Minnesota.
Each of their wooden flower
design, begins with miles of
hiking and photographic
research.
The wildflowers
they choose to recreate in
wood are selected based on
their color, shape, and simple
elegance. The flowers are
then “reborn” from nature to
art through amazing
craftsmanship. Making wood
flow into smooth, delicate
curves to mimic flowers in
nature is very difficult.
The final task is to develop a
unique vase which is
appropriate for each wooden
floral arrangement. The
various oaks and walnut
trees provide the fine wood
grains found in each vase.
Inspiration for each vase
design can come from almost
anywhere. The silhouette of a
bird on a pond in the morning
will often inspire an entire
week spent in the shop cutting
out new vase shapes.
